Lace & Petticoats: A Lolita Documentary

Lolita documentaries are few and far between, but they are always fun to watch when they pop up! Sometime last week Lace & Petticoats was posted to EGL and I found it a very fun and quick watch.

It's a bit of a combination of peeks into various Lolita's lives (and closets!) and basic information on the fashion, and it's definitely a good video to send in the direction of anyone looking to know more about what the fashion is really about. Personally, I thought some of the editing was a little frivolous and distracting, but other than that it's a very well put together and interesting mini-documentary!

If you're looking for some more Lolita documentaries, Babydoll Princess has compiled a pretty comprehensive list in this post! Do you have any favorite Lolita documentaries? I'm pretty fond of the Japanese one titled "Lifestyle of Goth-Loli Girls" on Youtube because I love the glimpses of all the cool places in Japan the Lolitas hang out and and shop at. I would probably pass out from excitement if I ever got the chance to see that doll museum or step foot in that 4 floor Lolita department store!

  1. I really liked the video. I liked alot of the dresses and that perspective is from Western Lolitas of all different sizes and playgrounds. Sometimes when Westerners do Lolita, it's funky and kind of half-hearted. Or worse, the style is sexualized due skin exposure and costumey garb.

  2. I truly agree with those girls. I was being stared as if I was from another planet when I go shopping with it. This is my style and who I am. I dont need a stranger to approve my styles. Keep up the good job girls!

  5. I randomly came across that video on Youtube the other week and posted it to my blog, but I'm glad you put it up as well since I think yours gets more traffic! ^_^

I love seeing Lolitas from different areas of the world. I think my favorite Lolita documentary is the one from Montreal. I used to live there for a while and I knew quite a few of those people. :)

  8. Was I the only one who recognized some of them for blogs and EGL?  Many of them looked very familiar to me.  Great documentary.  Some of the stories were very funny.  Very nice.
