Instead of one great big long post, I plan to do a few more of these one each of the major brands and a couple on much more general things. Click on the thumbnails for a much larger picture.
Round 1: Baby, The Stars Shine Bright
Oh Baby, I just love that picture of the 2 girls, classic old school Lolita! A few things you'll notice about early Baby is the lack of pastels and the multitude of black and white pieces. This early in Lolita, Sweet wasn't quite as we know it today, if you wanted to look sweet and innocent Shiro Lolita was the best way to go, and Baby seemed to be master of Shiro. Just look at those girls up top, they look like perfect Victorian dolls.
Well, I'm trying not to ramble too much in these old school vs. new school entries, as the ones about specific brand tend to speak for themselves. And besides, I don't want to go too off topic into things like the early days of Sweet Lolita, because I would like to do an entry about that alone.
I like the way you can get very similar bunny ear blouses from Bodyline now :)
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm personally glad that Baby doesn't make Momoko-style dresses anymore. They are a bit too granny style for my taste. No offence to the girls who rock them though!
I'm a huge fan of OTT sweet, but I still like the old-fashioned BABY clothes.
ReplyDeleteWhen sweet lolita was all white was when it was "pure". Haha, bad pun. xD
I like BABY's style now too, though. Just, simple stuff can be beautiful, too. (:
I haven't seen Kamikaze Girls, but really, some simple combination would look good.
ReplyDeleteLike, a Baby Skirt with simple blouse with some simple accessories would look the best on me.
Wow, I love the old fashioned much much more. The new stuff doesn't really do anything for me, while it's cute and well made, it doesn't interest me much.
ReplyDeleteActually, Baby still makes a lot of the same pieces that they did back in the early 2000's! http://www.fyeahlolita.com/2011/01/bringing-back-old-school.html This post has some examples of the dresses that Baby has released year after year since the early 2000s. Baby is a brand that's usually pretty good for when you want to get some "authentic" old school designs.
